~ Students will be taking the Oregon State Reading Test. They should be reading as much time as they are watching t.v. or playing video games.~ It's never too late to be a reader. Most students have finished the Oregon State Reading Test. Students who did not meet standards will be retested later in the year. Students will work on fluency. They need to be able to read smoothly with expression. Studies show students who can do this can focus on comprehension of text, rather than focusing on words. We will take a "cold-timing" each week. Our goal is 125 wcpm. (words correct per minute) Reading folders will come home every night. Please listen to your child read for 5 of their 20 minutes aloud. Sign and return purple folder. It is important to close the gap in their reading and we can do this by reading, reading, reading. I encourage this to be a focus this year. Ms. Hayes |
