Spelling -
*For the week beginning May 4, the majority of spelling words have "vowel diphthong:oi in them (spelled with "oi" and "oy"). The words are joy, toy, boy, spoil, coin, join, dawn, cause, toward, and circle.

*There are no spellling words for the week of May 11.

Reading -
*For the week beginning May 4, we will practice identifying cause and effect in the stories we read.

*For the week beginning May 11, we will make inferences concerning the stories we read.

Religion -
*For the week of May 4, we will learn about Mary as our spiritual mother.

*For the week of May 11, we will learn about the events at Fatima (the feast of Fatima is May 13).

English
*For the week of May 4, we will learn how to combine two sentences into one. We wil also review proper nouns.

*For the week of May 11, we will continue combining two sentences into one.

Math -

*For the week beginning May 4, we will:
***learn to tell time to the half-hour
***write time another way
***learn about digital clocks
***practice telling time
***learn about elapsed time

*For the week beginning May 11, we will:
***use models to act it out problems
***interpret a calendar
***use a calendar
***use a table to solve problems
***review & test over time & calendar

Science
For the weeks of May 4 - May 15, we will learn about keeping fit & healthy. Specifically, students will be held accountable for the following:

*Students will be able to identify which part of the food pyramid we should choose food from most often (bread, cereal, rice, or pasta).

*Given pictures of various foods, students will be able to identify which foods belong to the vegetable group.

*Given pictures of children playing at various activities, students will be able to identify which children are exercising more than the others, and which children will get tired first.

*Students will be able to write a sentence stating what children can do to feel less tired.

*Students will be able to write a sentence stating why they should wash their hands (germs).

*Students will be able to draw two pictures that show what helps keep teeth healthy.
