Beowulf is one of the oldest stories in the English language. It is so old that our language and our culture have changed greatly since it was first written down, but the tale remains a classic.

These internet links are provided to help you with your reading and understanding of the Beowulf story.

Beowulf In Hypertext offers very good, short, summaries of each chapter. Click on "The Text" and then "Modern Text" to get to a chapter selection feature.

The Modern Adaptation is another verse version of the story. It is EASY to read and is good to compare with our other class translations by S. Heaney and C. Hieatt. If you are confused by the reading, this is the site for you!

The SparkNotes are, as always, a good resource for review but a very poor substitute for the assigned reading. Please, do not make the mistake of thinking they will help you on quizzes or worksheets!

Sutton Hoo & Artifacts is a neat web site with information about and pictures of artifacts from the Sutton Hoo burial site. It is a great way to get a better idea of how people lived during the time period of the Beowulf story.
