GETTING TO KNOW ANDALUSIA Many tourists are attracted to Andalusia because of its welcoming, friendly population, its varied landscapes and its warm climate. This southern Spanish region is coloured by many cultures, Romans, Arabs, Jews and Gypsies have all considered it their homeland at one time of another. However, immigrants are at the other side of the coin. Every year, thousands of people from several nationalities are forced to leave their countries to escape poverty or to improve their personal conditions. This has meant a radical change in the human landscape of our towns. Probably large numbers settle in Andalusia because our community lets them keep their identity and at the same time helps them understand and adapt to our own. That new social condition has recently caused the arrival of new students to our school, immigrant boys and girls who need schooling or want to get access to academic education. Our job must be trying to build a common cultural space with a mental aperture to differences. YOUR TASK Imagine you are a reporter for the School Magazine.
