Bienvenidos al Español 2! I deem it a great pleasure and a true privilege to be your Spanish teacher this year. My desire is for you to develop an understanding of Spanish as a foreign language and an appreciation for the culture. Spanish 2 focuses on the continued development of communicative competence in Spanish and an understanding of the culture (s) of the people who speak the language. Instruction will be given in the target language so that you can become familiar with the use and the sound of Spanish. In fact, the best way to learn Spanish as a foreign language is to hear it frequently. You will use Spanish exclusively for classroom activities. There is a NO English rule which will take effect when you enter the classroom. You will know when it is time to speak English because the American flag will be on display. Otherwise, the Spanish flag will reflect the target language to be used. I do not expect you to be fluent at this level, but expect to see the effort to communicate in the target language. The themes to be covered are listed in the course outline and I will make the content and comprehension meaningful by incorporating authentic scenarios, videos, audios, technology, music, visual support, and products from the target culture. The two websites for the class are: www.schoolnotes.com/30058/spanish.html and www.nicenet.org. You will receive the code for nicenet on the first day of class. I anticipate a great time with you. Most of all I hope you will further develop an interest in and an appreciation for Spanish as a foreign language, reach communicative competence, and use the knowledge garnered for life long learning.
