There are five types of chemical reactions that we will be studying. 1) Synthesis 2) Decomposition 3) Single Replacement 4) Double Replacement 5) Combustion The goal of studying chemical reactions is to begin understanding how elements and compounds make new products. Objective - After studying this unit, students will be able to identify the different types of reactions and use this information to begin balancing the basic reaction types. The standard we will be studying is 12.3.3 According to the state requirement, "Students will develop an understanding of chemical reactions. (Investigate and describe common chemical reactions; investigate and explain how chemical reactions release or absorb energy; investigate and discuss chemical reactions in terms of bond formation by electron transfers; investigate and describe the factors influencing the rates of chemical reactions; investigate and describe how the use of catalysts accelerates chemical reactions.)" Directions Begin your study by opeing the Track. Go to site #1 and read the information. Look through the information I have provided for you. Make some relationships between the different types of reactions and see if you can discover what makes them unique. After watching the video on chemical reactions, you must write a minimum three sentence paragraph explaining how the information has helped you understand the information better. |
