The Civil War Begins

 


 

We will be covering the American Civil War this chapter. The United States and Confederate Armies fought from 1861-1865. More men died in this war than any other war in American History.
This unit is part of Nebraska State Social Studies Standard :
8.1.6 Students will identify and analyze causes, key events, and the effects of the Civil War and
Reconstruction.
Example Indicators:
· Describe economic and philosophical differences between the North and South.
· Identify key events leading to secession and war.
· Identify key people during this period, e.g., Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant,
Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, Frederick Douglas, William Lloyd Garrison, Harriet
Tubman, Harriet Beecher Stowe, John Brown, Clara Barton, etc.
· Identify key events during the Civil War, e.g., major battles, the Emancipation
Proclamation, and Lee’s surrender at Appomattox.
