Why Learn Math? Architects and civil engineers use measurement and numbers to help them design buildings. They compute with large numbers to decide how much of each different kind of building material, such as cement, boards, and drywall, they will need.

Introduction: Place value tells you the value of each digit in a number.

Objectives:
1.1 You will use a benchmark to give meaning to a number.
1.2 You will read, write, and identify the value of whole numbers.
1.3 You will read, write, and identify the place value of whole numbers through hundred thousands.
1.4 You will read, write, and identify the place value of whole numbers through millions.
1.5 You will solve problems using an appropriate skill such as use a graph.
Chapter Review/Test: You will demonstrate an understanding of concepts, skills, and problem solving presented in Chapter 1.
