Student Dress Code
 

 

THE PURPOSE OF JACK YATES HIGH SCHOOL DRESS CODE IS TO:

Ensure a safe learning environment
Teach respect for authority
Teach grooming and hygiene
Promote a climate of effective discipline that does not distract from the educational process

ADMINISTRATION IS THE FINAL ARBITRATOR ON WHAT DETRACTS FROM THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS. ALL STUDENTS MUST WEAR UNIFORMS ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL & EVERYDAY THERAFTER.

SHIRTS

Must be solid colored in yellow or white polo style with collar. Boys and Girls must have shirttails of sufficient length to remain tucked in during regular school activities.

PANTS
Solid colored khaki uniform pants only.
Pants must be fitted and worn at the waist (Pants should not sag below waist).
Pants are to be short enough and the legs are to be narrow enough to allow shoes to be seen.
Spandex, leggings, skinny pants, and capris are not allowed.
Skirts and shorts are not allowed.

ALL MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS MUST WEAR A BELT. (No oversized belt buckles)

SHOES
Students must wear shoes to school. Shoes or sandals with straps over or behind the heel are not permitted.
For safety reasons, house shoes, thongs, and flip flops are not permitted. (medical approval is necessary for special circumstances)
NO BLUE OR RED SHOE STRINGS

HAIR
Must be neatly combed and clean in appearance.
Length of hair should meet health and safety requirements in lab and work areas.
Hair nets are not acceptable.
Metal rakes and combs will not be permitted
Hats, caps, scarves, hair rollers, bandanas or sweat bands must not be worn in the building by males or females at any time.
Hair styles (cuts, designs or names) which adversely affect the educational atmosphere of the school will not be permitted.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
Male students will not be permitted to wear earrings on campus.
All students are prohibited from wearing nose, tongue or facial rings.
Gold teeth/grills are not permitted.
All students must wear Yates ID everyday while on campus including after school activities.
Jewelry that distracts from the educational process IS NOT ALLOWED. This includes anything depicting gang affiliation, cults, death, suicide, violence, vulgar language, drugs, sex, race, gender, obscenities, tobacco, or alcohol.
Wallet chains or dog collars are not allowed.
Only P.E. Department approved uniforms may be worn in physical education classes. P.E. uniforms may not be worn outside of scheduled P.E. classes. The approved P.E. uniform is black shorts and white t-shirts.

CELL PHONES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED ON CAMPUS AT ANY TIME

SPECIAL NOTE:
Those female students whose religion prohibits them from wearing pants must wear a skirt or dress of ankle length. (Documentation of prohibition must be on file in office) Student attire and grooming shall not distract, disrupt, create a safety hazard or take away from the learning process. Appropriate dress and grooming by each student for all school activities shall reflect the high standard of the school and the community. The administration has the responsibility of determining what is appropriate. Students who do not adhere to the dress code will be given an explanation of the dress code policy and will be subject to additional disciplinary action.

DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCES
First Offense: The student will be sent to an administrator and will not return to class until the parent or legal guardian brings the proper item(s) for the student. If a parent does not bring appropriate clothes, the student will be removed from the regular educational program for that day and will be sent to ISS.

Any further offenses or violations will result in suspension (in-school or off campus) for defiance of school policies.
