ADVERBS

MODIFY: verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.

MODIFY = MAKE MORE SPECIFIC

Bola chewed the kola nut rhythmically

TIME: (when/ how often/ how long)
today yesterday daily briefly

PLACE: (where/to where/from where)
here there nearby backward forward

MANNER: (how)
Precisely effectively well smoothly happily

DEGREE (how much/ how little)
Greatly partly very really extremely too

Bola buried the dead infants nearby


She saw her son tonight.


She thinks of him constantly.


He was a homely man. (homely = adj.)

Asi gazed at the lovely locket. (lovely =adj.)

The child ate fast (fast = adv.)

That is a fast horse. (fast = adj.)

PREPOSITIONS

SHOWS RELATIONSHIPS (over, above, under, beside, between, into, like, through, within, up, until…)

Object of the preposition: noun or pronoun that follows the preposition.

Among friends / for you / under the table.

Prepositional phrase

across the busy street
beneath the luminous moon
over that silly old doghouse

Adjective phrase > modifies a noun
… I can see houses with their dark windows.

Adverb phrase > modifies verb

Sometimes he would walk for hours and miles.
