A feast of knowledge

We will "explore the Pilgrims' and Wampanoags' experiences, actions, and decisions as they relate to the settlement of Plymouth colony. Throughout the activity, you will develop an understanding of historical events from different perspectives while practicing research skills, reading comprehension, and various forms of writing."

Together we will fill out the KWL graphic organizer with any information you "know about the ship, its voyage, and its crew and passengers." As you work through the activities, return to your KWL chart to compare, correct, or add new information.

Explore the "Voyage on the Mayflower," "Tour the Ship," and "Pilgrim Timeline" components for this section.
Mayflower Diaries: Imagine you are Pilgrims traveling on the Mayflower. Using information gathered from the activity and other sources, create a diary. "Write a diary entry for each week the Pilgrims were at sea (the voyage lasted nearly ten weeks)." To help plan for your entries, complete the timeline graphic organizer plotting the dates of actual events that happened during the journey. Refer to "Voyage on the Mayflower," the "Pilgrim Timeline," and other research sources to find dates of particular events. Fill in additional dates with events that could realistically have occurred, making sure each of the ten weeks are represented on the timeline. Record events along with an account of your activities, observations, opinions, and feelings.
