We had fun planning, designing and testing our inventions. |
Central Idea: People invent things intentionally and unintentionally in order to make life easier. An inquiry into: * Intentional and unintentional inventions throughout history * Different points of view as to how inventions affect our world * Steps to inventing We are in the midst of this unit at the moment. So far, some of our favorite activities have been: * Both egg drop experiments- in the first, students worked with a partner to create an invention of straws and tape to protect their egg in a 15-foot fall. In the second, students worked independently with materials of their choice to create an invention to protect an egg in the same circumstances. * Going to the computer lab to learn how to evaluate whether or not a website is a reliable source of information. Students will be using the skills they learned to research a famous inventor later in the unit. * Our current read-aloud, Un mal principio by Lemony Snicket. * Dividing into book groups to learn about famous inventions and inventors. For their final project, students will create an original invention! More details to come... |
