Two Ways That Lakes Form:
1) They form when glaciers create large scrapes or bowl-like holes in the ground. The holes are then filled with rain water or water from the glacier.
2) Lakes also form when watertable rises above Earth's surface.

How Does a Cavern Form:
1) Water in air combines with carbon dioxide to form carbonic acid.
2) Carbonic acid and water seep into rock dissolving certain minerals such as calcite, which is found in limestone, marble, and other rocks.
