PUYOL Carles Puyol i Saforcada is a Spanish football defender who plays for Spanish La Liga club FC Barcelona anthe Spanish national team. Carles Puyol started playing football for his hometown club, La Pobla de Segur, as a goalkeeper. In 1997, Puyol stepped up to play for FC Barcelona's B-team, occupying the position of right backPuyol was first chosen as the captain of FC Barcelona at the end of the 2003-04 season and has also been called upon to captain the Spanish national team.. On September 16 2008, Puyol made his 400th appearance in all competitions for the Barça first team in a Champions League match against Sporting. His appearances were made in La Liga (273), the Copa del Rey (30), the Champions League (81), the UEFA Cup(9), the Spanish Super Cup (4), the FIFA Club World Cup (2), and the UEFA Super Cup. Puyol won his first Spanish cap on November 15, 2000 against the Netherlands and has since been a regular fixture in the Spanish squad.
