Hi, Do you know that English is not only spoken in England? We are going to travel all around the world to discover other countries where people speak English. To do that, you will have to surf the Net to answer an easy set of questions. Are you ready for this adventure? QUESTIONS 1. How many people speak English in the world? Native speakers............................................... million English as second language....................... million English as foreign language......................... million 2 In how many countries English is the official or co-official language? 3 Choose one of the English -speaking countries and take note of: Flag Map of the continent showing the country Population (is it a populated country or not?) Type of government The most important city Monetary unit Year when this country became independent from the British Empire. Famous people (music, actors, writers, sportsmen......) BIG QUESTION What is the reason why English is spoken in so many different countries all over the world? Compare it with Spanish or catalan. PROCESS You have to make groups of 4-5 students. Each group will work on a continent. Every student will work on one of the countries of that continent. First part: The task is individual. You should work in a Word file that you have to submit to me answering the questions 1 and 2 and the big question. Second part: You r group will prepare a presentation on Google docs on the choosen continent and every student will do his/her part about the country choosen. (Question 3). After that, each group will make an oral exposition to the class with all the information on the different countries you have worked. The mark of this exposition will be the speaking mark of the term. Don't forget that you will be the teacher of your friends for one day. EVALUATION CONTENTS Questions 1 and 2 are 5 points each = 10 points Question 3 is 20 points Big question is 20 points. So, total is 50 points. ORAL EXPOSITION You have to take into account that I will evaluate your fluency, grammar accuracy and pronunciation, and REMEMBER that reading will lower your mark. |
