Library Reading Initiative
Main Goals:
1) To support reading instruction
2) To raise students’ reading levels
3) To help develop students’ critical thinking skills
4) To support rigor in instruction
5) To provide an additional reading incentives to students as positive reinforcement
Activities:
1) Students check out books from the library. Each student gains 1 point to “deposit” in their Homeroom class bank.
2) When they finish reading a book, each student will write a brief reading response by answering one of the high-level thinking questions provided. Each student will receive 2 points for each response to be added to the class points.
3) The class that receives the highest average of points will win a class award or incentives (Example: Ice cream party, popcorn party, school supplies, etc)
