PART I (Accessing The Web)
You will work independently on this task.

Click the Scavenger Hunt Worksheet.
If you need a "hard copy" ask the facilitator to print one for you.

You will need to access the web sites: History of the Abacus and A Brief Introduction To The Abacus to complete the worksheet.

Hand in the Worksheet when completed.

PART II (The Timeline)
Click on the graphics shown in to access the various web sites necessary to gather the following information:
  1. Identify the invention.
  2. Name the inventor.
  3. Know the year the machine was invented.
  4. Know why the machine was invented.

PART III
  1. Discover the purpose of the machine.
  2. Was it to replace another machine or make a job easier?
  3. Did it borrow ideas from previous inventions?
  4. How did it affect society.
  5. Did it lead to other inventions?
  6. Did people like it and use it?
  7. Was it a success?
  8. Record your answers in some sort of table of your choice.
  9. You will need this information to complete the following

    PART IV (Twentieth Century Computers)
    Click on the graphics above to access the web sites needed to answer the following questions:
    1. What is the name of the machine?
    2. What year was the machine invented?
    3. What purpose did the machine serve? (who would be using it and why).
      Record your answers in the same file you have created in the Timeline task.

      You will need this information for your PowerPoint presentation.

      PART V (PowerPoint)
      You will create a HyperStudio Stack independently showing how computers impact our society using the information you have saved in your file.

      Your presentation will contain the following slides:
      1. A title card - Give your stack an appropriate title. Make sure your first and last name appear in the title as the author.
      2. Three cards which answer the questions under the Timeline task.
      3. This information should be saved in your folder.
      4. Include one device on each card.
      5. Three cards answering the questions under the 20th Century Computers task.
      6. Two to three cards which demonstrate how computers have changed our society.
      7. Prepare to present your presentation to the class.
      8. Upload and Save your work as directed
