PROGRAM GOAL & OBJECTIVES Goal: All students will graduate prepared for post-secondary education and/or join the workforce. Program objectives are: • Improve academics • Improve attendance • Improve behavior • Improve promotion rates • Improve graduation rates FEDERAL SNAPSHOT Description The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) serves as a supplementary program to enhance state or local reform efforts by providing out-of-school services to students and their families. • Targets high-need, high-poverty, low performing schools. • Ensures highly effective programs to assist students in meeting academic standards in core subjects (math, reading, science, social studies). • Provides academic assistance along with enrichment opportunities to help students meet academic standards and graduate ready for college and/or the workforce. • Extends learning opportunities outside of the regular school day. Who We Serve: Grants for 21st CCLC programs are given to schools that have a high percentage of low-income families (40% or more students identified as economically disadvantaged). Ethnicity of Texas Students in 21st CCLC Yates Program offers all these programs in the Fall, Spring and Summer term: Fitness Activities: Open Gym, Strengthen and Conditioning, and Weight Training for the athlete to the novice. Fine Arts: Programs such as Jewelry Making and Scrapbooking courses. Culinary Arts/Health & Nutrition: Healthy cooking classes that make show students how to make healthy decisions when preparing meals and healthy alternatives to family favorites. SAT/ACT Test preparation: Preparation classes for all students that plan on attending college. This course has been designed to increase testing rates. Homework Assistance: To provide students with the assistance to complete homework, class projects and research work. Dance Program: Activities for drill team dance, twirling, band dance and Color Guard Flags. Computer Game/Technology: Students learn tips and tricks for playing videos games. We have also added this school year Digital Media Production videoing, editing and producing video and Music Production which is creating soundtracks, recording audio and producing songs. Hands-On Science/Gardening: Our campus has a fully functioning Greenhouse and an outside living Texas Landscape including a pond. Service Learning Opportunities: This activity is the only one offered only in the Summer term which allows students the opportunity to get familiar with the community and to earn community service hours towards graduation. |
