Part I

5 minutes: Choose groups. Meet with your group and assign numbers (1-3). The number you are assigned will dictate the questions you will be responsible for answering for your group.

Approximately 15-20 minutes: Answer your assigned questions in your notebooks.

Group member #1: Responsible for researching and answering questions: 1-5
Group member #2: Responsible for researching and answering questions: 6-9
Group member #3: Responsible for researching and answering questions:
10 & 11

5-10 mintues: Meet with the people from the other groups who were assigned the same questions (all #1s will meet, all #2s will meet, etc.). Compare and share information. If you have conflicting information note the conflict (a ** usually does the job) and record the conflicting information in your notebooks.

5-10 mintues:
Return to your original groups and share your answers. All group members are required to have all questions answered.

Questions:
1) What is the pancreas and what hormones does it produce?
2) What is the role of [answer to question #1] in the body?
3) What is the role of glucagon in the body and what structure produces it?
4) What is hypoglycemia and what can cause this condition?
5) What is hyperglycemia and what can cause this condition?
6) What is ketoacidosis and why does it happen?
7) What are some symptoms common to diabetes and what are the causes of each of these symptoms?
8) Explain the relationship between obesity and type II diabetes.
9) What is gestational diabetes?
10) Compare and contrast type I and type II diabetes (similiarities and differences).
11) Which form, type I or type II, is more common?
Homework:
Now you should be able to answer the questions in Part II, using the info from Part I
