Welcome to 8th Grade Math! We are very excited that we have the opportunity to teach your child math. We all love math and 8th graders. This is a very important year for math. Your child must pass the CRCT in order to go to the high school. We are all very dedicated to making sure this happens. Math is also very important because we are creating the building blocks for high school and college. Here are some tips to help you this year: Homework: Homework is assessed based on completion. Students must attempt EVERY problem to receive credit. How to help your child with their homework: Students should attempt their homework on their own. Students are given several examples during class for them to refer to. If they are struggling, encourage them to find an example from class that is similar to their homework problem and use it to complete the problems. Prompt them to look for patterns and ask what the steps might be. If they continue to struggle, please have them write a question to ask in class when we review the homework. Materials: Please make sure that your child has all the materials for class. Organization is very important and will help your child succeed. Pencil: All work must be done in pencil. Pen is NOT accepted. High School: All classes at Richmond Hill High School are college preparatory. At the end of your child’s 8th grade year, their teachers will recommend them for classes. Recommendations are based on grades, CRCT scores and your child’s work ethics. Please let us know if there is any additional material that you are looking for. |
