Why is English the ‘world language’? The USA may be the answer.
Since its discovery, millions of people have settled there, escaping from war, poverty or famine in their own country, or simply searching for a new life. By the 20th century, the USA had everything. With land, oil, and immigrants with energy and new ideas, it became the richest country in the world.
After World War II, the USA gave Europe millions of dollars to rebuild their economies, in the Marshall Plan. Since then, inventions, rock and roll, the first man on the moon, the Internet revolution, and US trade have all contributed to making the country, and the English language, so important in the world today.
