The links to different dictionaries on this page are to help you develop you vocabulary. When you use vocabulary in this course it is important to write the definition in Spanish, use it in a sentence and provide synonymns is possible. For your own reference you can include the English equivalent of the word, but note that Spanish to English and vice versa is NOT definition.

For each set of unit vocabulary you may need to use flashcards, games ofr a strategy of your choice.

1. Capable (fc)does not mean able to. Use Capaz= capable
2. Carpeta (fc) does not mean carpet. Carpeta = file folder. Alfombra/ tapete = carpet
3. Colegio (fc) does not mean college. Colegio = secondary or private school. Use Universidad for a tertiary institution.
4. Constipado (fc) means to have a cold. Estreñido = constipation in the bowels
5. Decepción (fc) = deception. Fue una decepción cuando perdió ... Engaño = deception.
6. Deshonesto (fc)= immodest, lewd, indecent. Honrado= honest. No es honrado= dishonest.
7. Efectivo (fc) = cash. Eficaz/ eficiente = effective
8. Embarazada (fc)= pregnant. Apenado/ mortificado = embarrassed
9. Éxito (fc) La salida = success. = exit
10. Firma (fc)= signature. Empresa o compañía= Firm/ company
11. Lectura (fc)= Reading. Ponencia o conferencia= Lecture
12. Introducir (fc)= to present/ insert. Presentar= to present a person.
13. Papel (fc)= writing paper/ staionery. Trabajo escrito/ ponencia/ informe= reporto research paper
14. Pretender= to attempt or try. Simular o fingir= simulate or assume an identity
15. Realizar= to achieve or accomplish something. Darse cuenta= realize
16. Promoción= sale or promotion of a new product. Ascenso= promotion or advancement in the sense of a job or grade level
17. El voto(pfc) promise or vow. Voto= vote as a political act.
18. Aplicar (pfc) = to put one thing to another. To fill out a job application use llenar una solicitud o formulario.
19. Argumento (pfc)= legal or intellectual argument. Una disputa= disagreement
20. ATENDER (pfc)= to take care of. Does not mean to attend or be present
21. ASISTIR (pfc) means to attend. Yo asisto a la escuela MGHS. Ayudar= to help
22. Conferencia (pfc) conference rarely. Means lecture or formal presentation. Use Congreso/ entrevista.
23. Forma (pfc)= form in the sense of shape. formulario o planilla= Form to fill out
24. Molestar (pfc)= to bother. Violar o abusar= molest
25. Nativo (pfc)=adjective as in "native language". Natural de Mexico.
26. Relevante (fc)= outstanding. Pertinente relacionado = appropriate
27. Simpático= nice, pleasant, attractive personality. Compasivo o despuesto a= simpathetic
