Being able to locate, evaluate & process quality sources is the first step in becoming a credible writer & researcher.

Locating Source Material
Start with a question.
Narrow your search to locate materials that would answer the question.

Evaluating Source Material
After gathering several sources on the topic you need to evaluate them.
Credibility has to do with authority and trust.
Objectivity has to do with unbiased truth.
Reliability has to do with truth and timeliness.
Evidence must be sufficient and convincing.

C.O.R.E. Questions?
Is the website as valuable as the source material you have gathered?
Does the website have a variety of information?
How much authority does the author or group that runs the website have?
What date was the website created?
Is the website designed creatively with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation?

Processing Source Material
Read the source. Take Notes. Use 3 X 5 cards:
Use Direct Quotes from the author.
Paraphrase. Rewrite the author's ideas using your own words.
React to the author's material. Use your ideas in contrast or agreement with others ideas.
Prepare for building your bibliography by writing down all information needed to cite your sources.
