After completing this project you will be able to: Describe the physical and nutritional training required to compete in one of the following sports:

Due Date: Wednesday, October 13th (earn 5 extra credit points if submitted by Friday, October 8th)

About the project:

I. Randomly pick a sport from the Sports Box. Use the links to the left to research the following information about the sport chosen.

II. Type a 2 paragraph description of the sport.

a. Provide the name of your even/sport, along with a description of how the sport is played.

b. Discuss the history of the event/sport. Include the different parts or events that make up the event and when your sport made its debut.

c. You should also include the results of the sports championships (Stanley Cup, Super Bowl, etc.) This information can be found at a number of different websites provided by Mrs. Mullins. Feel free to include any news paper or magazine articles in your final project.

III. Discuss how your sport encompasses all 5 components of fitness.

a. Create a chart that describes how your sport uses each component of fitness. You may need to break down the skills required to master the sport.

b. In a paragraph explain which component is the most important to your sport.

IV. In a paragraph design a full day menu for athletes participating in your sport. Be aware of:

a. How the meals suggested match the needs of the sport;

b. Make sure the meals are balanced;

c. Food groups accurately match the athletes’ needs;

d. Includes all food groups.

IV. Create a model depicting/representing your sport. Ideas include, but are not limited to collages, murals and 3D models. (*Maximum size = oak tag)
