Overview

While growing content and faster connections make the Internet a powerful tool for retrieving information, the information we find there may not be as reliable as books and educational databases. During this project, you will select a research topic from the current unit, The Diary of Anne Frank, and use online resources, books, journals, encyclopedias, etc. to explain, describe, and examine said topic.

Procedure

1. Complete the Topic Definition worksheet handed out in class. This will help you narrow your research topic and identify search terms related to your topic. Possible topics include:

  • Adolf Hitler
  • Auschwitz (or other concentration camps)
  • World War II (key battles, generals, Nazi leaders)
  • Miep Gies
  • Nazi Party
  • Japan (involvement in the war)
  • Benito Mussolini (Italy’s leader during the war)

2. Use the following resources to locate reliable information on your chosen topic:

  • Encyclopedias (print or World Book Online). Encyclopedias are efficient resource to start your research because they provide a general overview of your topic and include keywords needed to perform effective research.
  • Books (OPAC)
  • Database Journals
  • Reliable Websites (Wikipedia is not a reliable website). See links to the right

    3. Create a three (3) paragraph, typed paper describing your topic (Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spaced). To avoid plagiarism, read, re-read and utilize information that has been already written about the topic but write something new and original based on your knowledge and opinions on the subject.

    4. Create a bibliography giving proper credit to your resources. Be sure your bibliography is properly formatted according to MLA citation guidelines.
