SIGHT WORDS

Let's leap like lizards into reading!! Practice reading sight words on your level daily!

Dear Parents,

Research shows that one must be successful in several Language Arts areas in order to become a “good reader” and achieve maximum success in school. One area is learning words by sight – sight words OR high-frequency words. We are beginning a Sight Word program to encourage students to learn words that are used most frequently in reading and writing. In the beginning, each child will receive the first list of words (Level 1) to practice at home. When your child is successful in reading the words, he/she is to let the teacher know and we will test the student by showing the words in random order and having him/her read sentences using the words. Please remember when working with your child at home that the words MUST be instantly recognized “by sight”. Students will be given only 3 seconds to name the word when testing. If the child is successful in reading all words instantly and reading sentences fluently, he/she will receive a small prize and will receive the next level words. There are ten levels that the students should complete before moving to the next “colored lizard” area.

Happy Reading

Mrs. Leahy
