A BALANCED DIET, A HEALTHY LIFE


Think about your own diet: is it healthy enough?
 

 

This activity is linked to what we have recently seen in the classroom, remember? Unit 1, 1A? YES! .... Food!!

Our aim now is to give you some extra practice for you to gain more knowledge on the issue - vocabulary and ideas to talk, discuss or write about.

Let’s see…….

In order to answer the questions bellow, you will need to read the reports and watch the video listed on the right of this page.

PART 1
1. What are the different food groups?
2. How much fruit and vegetables should we eat per day?
3. Explain what dairy products are and give examples.
4. What kind of nutrients derive from meat? Where else can you find these nutrients?
5. What’s the most important meal of the day?

PART 2
1. According to the report by the Food Standards Agency, what does ‘balance of foods’ mean?
2. Read the eight guidelines for a healthy diet suggested in the report and choose the four most important ones.
3. Take a look at the recommendations on page 5 and let me know what 3 things – or more - from the list you always try to avoid.
4. Do we need to take food supplements (p.7)?

PART 3
Watch this video trying to take short notes (use key words) in order to answer the following questions:

1. What’s Carrie’s problem with food? What is it being compared to?
2. According to Dr. Braverman, what can we have instead of sugar and salt?

PART 4
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? “Young people today eat less healthily than ten years ago”.

1. Write about 150 words about it and
2. be ready to discuss the topic in class.

Remember: use related vocabulary and be careful with the use of the present simple and continuous forms (take a look to the links on the right for revision).
