INTRODUCTION --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are about to enter the music world. Music plays an important role in our lives. It is a central tool for expressing our emotions and promoting our living. We need to spend a lot of time listening to music to entertain ourselves. In this project, you will investigate Nelly Furtado, the famous Canadian singer. You are invited to go on a journey in order to have a quick overview of the Nelly’s music. You will know her origin, her most famous songs. Finally, you have to make a presentation using a multi-media medium about the song “In God’s Hands”. To fulfill what we have planned for, you have to answer all the questions. So, let's surf on the net and gather as much information as possible about this popular singer. TASK --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are asked to work in groups of four: To make an internet research and answer all the questions. To prepare a presentation about Nelly Furtado. To use a multi-media medium to present your project (Photos, videos, PowerPoint for example). To present your final product orally in the classroom. You have to divide the tasks required out between yourselves and develop a strategy to manage the tasks in due time. Write a sentence using this expression. 8.How can we translate the title of the song “In God’s Hands”? 9.What album does the song “In God’s Hands belong to? 10.Watch and listen the video of the song “In God’s Hands”. What is the singer doing? Where is she? Can you understand the words/lyrics she sings? What’s the song about? 11.In the title of the song the subject is omitted. Can you guess what is it? 12.Search for “In God’s Hands” lyrics. How many simple past verbs are used in this song? Do you want to be somebody else? Why? Who would you like to be? What attracts you more in the song: the music or the lyrics? What is more important for a song: music or lyrics? Why? These items will help you to do the presentation. They will also make use of the new technologies (using a multi-media medium to present their project). Besides, students will know (better) Nelly Furtado and her song. This song “In God's Hand” gets them not only to talk but also provides an opportunity to use simple past and other language of speculation: what kind of woman is she, what does she look like, what kind of relationship did she have, etc.? To integrate the new Information and Communication Technologies into the English class. To learn to search for specific information on the net. To select and process information from the net. To show respect for others’ opinion. CONTENTS Written communication: Students will do a presentation about Nelly Furtado on a written support. Oral communication: Students will present orally their conclusions to the rest of the class. Students will learn how to deal with musical terms as well as to talk about relationships and feelings. Oral and reading practice of simple past verbs. The four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are integrated in the project. Students will learn accuracy and creativity when elaborating this project. |
