There are thousands of weird and fascinating world records. Let´s take a look at some of the strangest world records.

• Monsieur Mangetout (Mr. Eat Everything) is a normal guy, except he eats things like metal and glass. He’s the record holder of the largest airplane ever eaten.

• The world’s tallest Lego structure was built in February 2005, in California. It's 92 feet and 6 inches. It took 12,000 people using more than 400,000 bricks and five days to build the tower.

• The World’s biggest cookie is about 100 ft. in diameter and 40,000 lb in weight. It’s a chocolate chip. Yummy!

• The world’s greatest miser was Hetty Green and she was a very rich woman. Actually, she was once the richest woman in the world, probably because she didn’t spend any money. She never turned on the heat nor used hot water. She wore one old black dress. She did not wash her hands and rode an old carriage. She ate mostly pies that cost fifteen cents.

Now answer the questions below.

1. What’s so weird about Mr. Eat Everything?

2. To build the tallest Lego structure, what was needed?

3. If 1 foot is equal to 0.3048 meter and 1 inch is equal to 2.50 centimeters, convert 92 feet and 6 inches. You can use the calculator converter on you left.

4. How heavy is the cookie in kilos? Bear in mind that 1 pound is 0.453 kilograms.

5. What was the problem with Hetty Green?

6. In your opinion, what was the strangest habit Helly Green had?

7. Which one of those world records have you liked best and which one have you liked least? Why?

8. Now you’re going to watch two videos, one about a dog and the other, about a boy. What are the records about? Where are they from? When were they achieved? Try to get as many details about the records as you can.

9. As a final activity, click on World Records Academy on your left, choose a world record and write about it using your own words. Try to answer the following questions: What world record is it? Who holds it? Where is the world record from? When was the world record achieved? And finally, describe the record. If you can, get a picture of the world record you have chosen.

Go get’em, tigers!!
