THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

The Industrial Revolution was a period from the 18th to the 19th century where there were a lot of changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transportation, but most importantly, technology had a profound effect on the socioeconomic and cultural conditions of the times. It began in the United Kingdom, though it spreaded very quickly throughout Europe, North America, and eventually the world.

The Industrial Revolution definitely marks an important turning point in human history; almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way.

In this unit, you will work in groups of 3/4 on one of the following topics:

1. ECONOMIC SYSTEM
2. AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION
3. INVENTORS
4. TRANSPORTATION
5. TEXTILE INDUSTRY
6. MINING, IRON AND STEEL INDUSTRY
7. GROW OF CITIES AND SOCIAL CHANGE
8. WORKING CONDITIONS AND REFORMATION

TASK 1

Examine the various resources available on the left and complete the quiz. Then, answer to the questions corresponding to your group. You will have to make a presentation to the rest of the class. You will need to plan how you will present these answers, so you need to let your teacher know at least one day in advance if you need special equipment for your presentation.

TASK 2

Once you have listened to your students presentations, take the quizzes available for each group to check your understanding. You will need register, then look for the class “Bilingual resources” and finally search the following quizzes’ titles:
