Cornelia
  The Wife Caesar Loved

Cornelia, first and beloved wife of Caesar, as a Roman matron

In 84 BC Caesar committed himself to Cornelia, the young daughter of Cinna, a helpful political influence for Caesar. When the dictator Sulla announced that Caesar must divorce Cornelia, young Caesar defied the dictator and went into hiding rather than divorce the wife he loved. Cornelia gave Caesar his only child, Julia, before Cornelia died in childbirth in 68 B.C.
