Dribbles From The Gym

First Edition

The first 2 weeks of school have been busy ones in Physical Education class! The students have been going over the rules for Physical Education. They have played get to know you games and a few spatial awareness games. We have also had the opportunity to go over playground rules, how to use the equipment safely and playground games. First and second graders have reviewed the rules for kickball and participated in a game. Second graders reviewed the rules for the game of 4-square. As we enter the next few weeks first graders will be working on spatial awareness, pathways, levels, locomotor skills and ball handling skills. The second graders will briefly review spatial awareness and locomotor skills. They will then move onto basic soccer skills. I look forward to a great year with your children.

The Feelin Good Mileage Club provides opportunity for students, grades first to second, to walk for fitness. The Mileage Club will be held during recess 2 days a week. The walking course will be entirely on school grounds.
Your child does not need special equipment or shoes to participate. Simply have him/her dress appropriately for the weather. Each student is free to walk as little or as much as he/she desires in the designated time. The Feelin’ Good Mileage Club is noncompetitive.
Achievement awards will be given. For each 5 miles, your child will receive a Toe Token to place on his/her shoe. At each 10 miles, he/she will receive a certificate. I think your child will enjoy the Feelin’Good Mileage Club. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at pholeton @oxford.k12.pa.us
If you would like to help out with the Mileage Club please send me an e-mail!

P.E. RULES
Our School Wide Behavior Plan focuses on 4 words: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Effort. To us these words mean:
Honesty: Play fair
Respect: Be a good sport
Responsibility: Be prepared
Follow Directions Effort: Always try your best

WHAT TO WEAR TO P.E.?
Students must wear sneakers to be safe in Physical Education class. It is asked that loose comfortable clothing also be worn. Dress clothes and dresses may hinder your child’s participation in class.
F.Y.I. – Sometimes students forget their sneakers on P.E. days. When this occurs, your child will not be able to participate for safety reasons. Forgetting sneakers will also affect your child’s effort and achievement grade in P.E. Please help your child to remember what day they have P.E. Remember, they can always bring their sneakers in their backpack and change in P.E.
