My name is Mrs. Arnold and I am thrilled to be your Individuals & Societies (formerly known as Social Studies) teacher on the Panthers team! Together, we’ll make the 2018-2019 school year a fantastic year!

In order to create a safe, orderly and predictable environment in which we may work, it is important to have a few rules and procedures that will govern the way our classroom operates.

Mrs. Arnold’s Classroom Rules
1.Be on time (this means that you are in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings).
2.Come to class prepared.
3.Follow directions.
4.Respect others and their property.
5.Follow all school rules.
6.Always do your best.

These are what you might call “general rules” – we will discuss together what each of these might mean in practical terms. Rather than have hundreds of specific “no” rules, I would rather work from these 6 simple and positive rules that communicate my expectations. If you choose to disobey the rules in my class you will receive one of the following consequences:

Mrs. Arnold’s Classroom Consequences
Step 1.Verbal warning
Step 2.Verbal warning
Step 3.On team detention for remainder of period + 1 period. Parent will be notified.
Step 4. Multiple times in On Team Detention in one week, will result in one full day of On Team Detention
Step 5. Office referral
*Note severe infractions will result in immediate referral

I hope to make your experience in 7th grade, on the Panthers, a positive one. Please know that if you follow the rules and do your best you will earn rewards.

Make-Up Work
If you are absent it is YOUR responsibility to ask for your make up work. I will give you the new due date of the work you missed when you pick it up.

Mrs. Arnold’s Late Work Policy
Late work is work that is not turned in on the day it is due. Students will receive interims approximately every 2 weeks. If you have a missing assignment listed on the interim, you have until the next scheduled interim date to turn in that missing assignment. Late work that is turned in by the deadline, will be accepted for a maximum 80% of total points.

Classroom Procedures
1.Beginning Class- Enter the room quietly and go directly to your assigned seat. Start the Bell Ringer promptly after the bell rings.
2.Bell Ringer- You will be expected to complete a warm-up assignment every day when you walk into the classroom. These assignments will be written on notebook paper and turned in every other Friday. The assignment will be posted on the Smart board. Your assignments must be dated and labeled accordingly. These will be graded each quarter. If you are absent for a Bell Ringer, check with a classmate to get the day’s warm up assignment.
3.When I need your attention- I will raise my hand. I will not shout. I will simply wait for you to look at me. When you see me with my hand up, you will a) stop what you are doing b)be silent c) raise your hand to show me you are ready. When I have the attention of the class I will continue.
4.When you wish to answer a question or when you need my attention- raise your hand quietly and I will call on you. Ooohing, whistling or bouncing up and down will not make me call on you faster so please do not do it.
5.Turning in your work- completed assignments should be turned in to the appropriate tray for your class period. All assignments should be labeled with your first and last name, date and class period.
6.Sharpening your pencil- please use my sharpener before or after class. If your pencil breaks during class, please use your own sharpener or simply raise your pencil in the air. I will know this means you need to sharpen it and I will allow you to get up and sharpen your pencil.
7.When an announcement is made on the loudspeaker or the phone rings- you will remain silent. Please do not talk or attempt to answer for me.
8.Dismissal- I dismiss you, NOT the bell. When class is over I will dismiss you by rows. Hint: the quietest rows get to go first!
