Pyramids

Calculating Volume and Surface Area

Links:

When pyramids are mentioned, most people think of the Great Pyramids in Egypt. However, pyramids take on a variety of shapes, but all of them have some features in common. Every pyramid has:
· A polygon base (i.e. triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon)
· A single point (Apex) for a top
· Triangles for every side

Surface Area:
When all sides are the same,
Area = [Base Area] + 1/2 × Perimeter × [Slant Height]

When the sides are not the same,
Area = [Base Area] + [Lateral Area]

Volume:
V=1/3 × [Base Area] × Height
