All about Charles Dickens
 

 

In this webtask we are going to explore the life and works of the world-famous novelist Charles Dickens and learn about his fascinating biography and his achievements as a writer.

THE TASK
This is a pairwork task in which you will have to find out about the most important facts of the periods below and write at least about two of these facts.
1. Dickens' childhood.
2. His early job experiences.
3. His marriage.
4. His trips abroad.
5. His most famous works.
6. Success as a writer and rumours about his private life.
7. The train accident.
8. His death.
9. His reputation as a writer.
10. The main topics in his novels.

THE BIG QUESTION
When you have finished, choose one of the periods above and imagine you are Dickens. Write a letter to your best friend describing your life at that period and the good and bad things you are going through. Don't forget to mention as many details as possible and explain how you feel and also how your family and friends feel.

ASSESMENT. The activity is to be graded on:
- Complete and accurate answers to questions.
- Good cooperative work.
- Language accuracy in answers to questions and in letter.
- Creative skills and originality in letter content.
