Quarter Two Project: The Non-Fiction Book Report
Due: Monday, January 18, 2013
Research Dates: 12/3-12/4
Background: In the novella The Pearl, you will discover that Kino’s character is forced to fight against all odds in order to maintain what he perceives to be the well-being of his family. At certain points, he loses track of his ultimate goals, however, he still attempts to resolve his conflicts through any miens necessary.
The goal of your second quarter project is to discover information about a person who has had to struggle against the odds of life. This may be an intellectual, spiritual or physical struggle. Then, you create a brochure using Microsoft Publisher that fulfills the requirements below:
Directions:
Create a typed, properly folded Publisher Brochure (2 points) including the following:
a. A colorful cover page including the name of your person, an image of him/her, your name and period (3 points); http://www.timetoast.com/
b. Three additional pictures of the person you are discussing inside the pamphlet in a way that’s visually appealing (2 points);
c. A timeline of at least ten of his/her major life events using timetoast.com or a timeline generated by you (5 points);
d. A discussion about the struggle he/ she has had to endure. Explain the type(s) of conflict(s) he/she has had (Man vs. _____) (10 points);
e. A paragraph on his/her resolution to the problem (5 points);
f. A discussion of the setting of this person’s life. How did his/her environment shape the person he/she became? (5 points);
g. An explanation of what this person’s influence is/was to the world (5 points);
h. A paragraph explaining how this person positively influenced you (5 points);
i. A properly cited list of three resources utilized for the information in this project. You may use citationmachine.net or any other citation engine that uses proper MLA format. (You may repeat ONLY two types of resources and have an additional resource. For example, you may use two books and an Internet article) (3 points) ;
j. A title for each brochure paragraph (2 points).
