Mendelian Genetics and Meiosis

Now that you have background knowledge on Gregor Mendel and modern day meiosis, it's time to bridge the two concepts. Imagine Gregor Mendel has taken a time machine and ended up in 2014. You are a modern day scientist, that has benefited from Mendel's work. You are dying to meet up with him and ask him about his work. You also want to share all the progress that has been made since his discoveries. There is so much to say; this can only be resolved by going on a talk show!

Your Assignment:

1. Get into groups of four (assigned by the teacher)

2. You and your group will be making a talk show, where Gregor Mendel meets a modern day scientists. Divide your group up into four roles (a camera person, a talk show host, a modern day scientists, and of course Gregor Mendel himself).

3. Work together with your group to write a script for a 5-8 minute talk show clip. Your script will need to include questions, asked by the talk show host. It will also need to include how Mendel has impacted modern day genetics. Gregor Mendel will need to give information about his work. The modern day scientist will need to give information about how Mendel has impacted modern day genetics, specifically meiosis.

4. Once you have completed your script you MUST get it approved by the teacher (exit ticket).

5. For your HOMEWORK you and your group will need to film your talk show. The camera person will need to record everything on a camera.

Remember to use the content and vocabulary words learned from your brainstorm and research. Use the rubric to establish the expectations. Be creative and have fun!
