Understanding:

The Solar System

We are working on understanding the solar system!

We live on planet Earth, the third planet from the sun, but there are many other planets that are a part of our solar system. All of these planets are unique, and this lesson we are working on understanding a little more about them. Some of you might become astronauts, astronomers, scientists, meteorologists, and maybe even science teachers!

Do you think there is life on other planets? Could there be aliens out there? Can we see planets from our back yard? Will we be able to visit another planet someday?

For this lesson, we will watch a video on the Solar System. After, you will be sorted into groups of two or three, and you will read the section together and discuss what you have learned. Then, we will begin our individual assignments. Over the next few days, we will be working on this assignment to demonstrate what you have learned about the solar system.

This assignment has four options. You can:

- Make up a song about the solar system

- Make a work of art that shows the planets in relation to the sun (planets should be comparable in size – Jupiter is the biggest, Venus is smaller than Earth, etc.)

- Make a diagram/grid of information about the planets (How long it takes to orbit the sun, position in the solar system, gas/rock planet, color, and one fun fact. You can add more information if you want)

- Make up a story about an alien who visits every planet in the solar system and what they saw/felt/experienced.

Here is a link to the video, in case you choose to re-watch to refresh the information.
