Periods in Music History

In this course, we have studied six periods or eras in the history of Western art music:
1. The Middle Ages
2. The Renaissance
3. The Baroque Period
4. The Classical Period
5. The Romantic Period
6. The 20th Century and Beyond

Your task is to choose one of these time periods and create a Web poster that does the following:
- Tells the approximate starting and ending years of the time period
- Explains the characteristics of music that was composed during the time period (think about the elements of music to help you)
- Lists at least three composers who lived and wrote during the time period
- Provides a brief biography of each of the composers you selected
- Lists at least three well-known musical compositions from the time period (and provide links for the reader to listen to them)

FINAL REQUIREMENT - CHOOSE ONE
A. Write 1-2 paragraphs about another event in world history that occurred during this time period. Explain what the event was, and answer the question, "How do you think music of the time period reflected (or did not reflect) what happened during the event?"
B. Choose one of the musical compositions that you selected and write 1-2 paragraphs analyzing the music. Use your knowledge about the elements of music to describe the details of what you hear. Answer questions like, "What are the instruments, what is the form of the piece, how do certain rhythms or harmonies increase tension, and how is tension released in the music?"

Get creative, and provide links to other resources that your readers may be interested in.
