NVA Panzer Private, Engineer Major, Paratroop Lieutenant Colonel |
Interestingly, the “anti-fascist and anti-imperialist” East German army (LANDSTREITKRÄFTE) uniform featured a distinctive cut and insignia similar to the German Army uniform of WWII. Career officers and NCOs wore stone-grey gabardine (polyester / wool) tunics and pants wthat were white piped at the collar cuff and trouser seam. Short-term NCO's and conscripts of the army wore unpiped stone-grey wool tunics and trousers. Overseas (side) and visor caps featuring the national markings were provided for all ranks. The uniform featured a blue grey jack shirt and grey tie for dress occasions and a white shirt and grey tie for parades. The jack shirt could be worn with or without the tunic. In this respect, the jack shirt also had attachment points for rank shoulderboards. Ribbon bars (interimspange) and achievement awards were worn on the dress uniform, while on the parade uniform, medals and achievement awards were worn. |
