BON AMI ARBRE / PETITE AMIE VIGNE -- Dale C. Garside A tree is planted And so is the vine The two are rooted And branches we find Nourished by soil And in their time One comes to shade The other to entwine The ground is the same The branches not so Starting with much in common They quite differently grow How wonderful to be a tree! Shading your life And feeling your growth Over me Yet I prefer the vine That enlaces you And senses your touch In mine Grateful to be a tree Fulfilled when a vine Growing in fertile earth That God provides A friend you are Precious indeed You bring refreshment In my time of need I yearn, though, for the other Your life to wrap in mine Mine with yours to care Yours with mine to share A tree tall and strong Will fall before long With a vine that chokes And drains the sap I long to be close But not to kill Your life means more Than my own will |
