SOCIAL STUDIES SIX

WORLD WAR ONE

World War I was considered the War to End All Wars. Airplanes and chemical warfare changed the face of war forever. Trench warfare left scars across Europe that can still be seen today.

Although the fighting was "Over There", World War I changed American society forever. Across the country, young men left their farms as they joined the army. Once they tasted the excitement of city life, many never returned. Women, after working for the war effort, were not ready to fade from the workplace and demanded a stronger voice in all aspects of American life. A cautious, isolationist America emerged as the world power it is today.
