The period prior to the Civil War is referred to as Antebellum. This was a time of tremendous growth for our country, but also a time of tremendous unrest. In the agricultural South cotton was king and required slave labor to keep the economy thriving. New inventions changed the industrial North, and revolutionary ideas from both sides changed America forever. |
