MISSION: The Poe Library Media Center provides equitable access for all students and teachers to books and reading, to information, and to information technology in an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. Students will find resources that offer opportunities to master the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Kindergarten through grade five (K-5). All cataloged resources in the Poe library collection can be selected by students using the Alexandria Researcher, a part of our library automation system. (See link at left to search the Poe catalog.) HOURS: Open each day when HISD has classes, 7:45 A.M. to 3:15 P.M. On Early Dismissal days the library closes at 12:45. For additional resources, contact Houston Public Library, Freed-Montrose Branch, 4100 Montrose, 832-393-1800. (See link at left.) ON-LINE RESOURCES: HISD provides databases for the use of students, teachers, staff and parents. (See link at left.) Ask the librarian for the Universal Home User Name and Password if your computer is not connected to the HISD network. SUPPORT YOUR LIBRARY! Research shows that a well-stocked library staffed by a certified library media specialist has a positive impact on student achievement. Ask the librarian about opportunities to donate a book to the Poe Library to remember a special person or a special event. MAKE READING A HABIT. |
