World War I Teaching Exercise

Each group will plan a 15 minute lesson focusing on an aspect of the Great War. Your lesson plan must be centered on the use of primary source material as the main tool or focal point of the plan.

You must submit a lesson plan based on the following:

Purpose/Objective: What is the point of your lesson? Identify the core knowledge you want to the class to understand. What do you want students to be able to demonstrate after the lesson? (You will be asked to evaluate student understanding.)

Materials:
You must include a detailed WC of all materials used.

Plan:
Provide a detailed outline of your 25 min lesson.
• How will you begin/initiate the lesson?
• Each aspect should be covered and rehearsed. You MUST CENTER YOUR PLAN AROUND THE ANALYSIS OF PRIMARY MATERIAL.
o Think:
 How can you portray your topic through this medium?
 How does the material fit into the larger historical picture?
 Can you draw modern parallels or make the material relevant today?
• Closure – How will you evaluate student knowledge?

You may use any medium you want to present information, but remember that you want the information presented in a manner that is accessible to the whole class.

1. I will select 8 figures, of which you will choose only 1 to write on.
2. Write a 1 page journal entry reflecting on either a day in your life, a key period of time, decision you made or action you took. You MUST incorporate into your account the following question: What is your greatest fear? How did this fear impact your actions reported? Be as descriptive as possible. Your reflection must be based on the historical character assigned and though fictional, take into account his/her position, background, etc.
