Science Fair

THIS IS UPDATED APRIL 26,2011
Dear Parents,
Can you believe it is April already? State tests and the annual science fair are approaching. As state tests and the science fair approaches we will try to adjust the homework load accordingly. We expect that children need to spend 15 minutes each night preparing for their science fair project. During testing weeks homework will be kept to a minimum.

Each night your child should continue to read for pleasure, the only thing proven to raise student test scores. In addition to nightly reading we are requiring ALL our 6th ,7th and 8th graders to participate in the science fair on June 1st, 2010.

Each week your child will need to submit work to show the progress they have made towards a completed project to their teacher. (7th/8th graders may turn in work for feedback but we expect them to follow these outlines alone this year). Your child should work independently to complete the project. If you have questions about how you can help encourage your child feel free to send us an email.

Monday May 9th Topic and Hypothesis is due
Friday May 13th Written Procedures and materials list due
Friday May 20th Observations/Data/Interpretation in rough draft form due
Friday May 27th Summary and Conclusions due
Wednesday June1st COMPLETE PROJECT DUE (see below)

A Complete Project HAS:
Display Board with large clearly written topic
All parts of the scientific process typed or neatly written and explained
Photos or careful drawings
Includes sample activities, the completed project or relevant activities
Student Name, Grade, Room Number

Students may work independently or with ONE other partner

We are happy to help with some supplies, allow access to computers during some lunch or recess periods and we can provide books to help with topic selection.

We look forward to seeing science come alive for each of our students. We thank you for supporting your child as they work independently on this.

Sincerely,

Scott Hilton and Julie Mamis
