Mrs. Vance |
I am Shelly Vance and have been the art teacher at Saint Elizabeth School for the past 8 years. My husband Bion and I have 3 daughters, Addison, Mallory, and our newest arrival born in January, Baby Elizabeth. Previously, I taught 3rd grade in the KCMO School District and at St. Paul's Episcopal Day School. I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1988 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. My Master's Degree is in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and I am also certified in Art Education grades 1-9. I enjoy playing tennis, skiing, painting and making pottery in my spare time. At Saint Elizabeth, we have a hands-on, spiraling curriculm which fosters creativity and builds on the elements of art and the principles of design. The elements include line, shape, value, color, texture, and form. The principles include unity, pattern, emphasis, balance, contrast, rhythm, and movement. As your child experiences each grade level, he or she will become familiar with the elements and principles, learn about famous artists from art history. and apply this knowledge to his/her own creative artwork. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with each of your children. There will be an Art Show in the spring to showcase their work. Artwork from the year will be kept at school in their portfolios and sent home in May. Feel free to contact me any time with questions or concerns. My voicemail extension is 4203. Thank you! P.S. There are some examples of children's artwork on the next few pages of my website. Happy viewing! |
