Living in the Paleolithic Era

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION:
In the book, Dar and the Spear Thrower by Marjorie Cowley, Dar is a young boy living fifteen thousand years ago in southern France. The spear-thrower, a device that enabled a hunter to throw with greater power, was invented during this period. Dar's passion to possess a spear-thrower sends him on a dangerous journey into unknown territory. His understanding of what it means to be a man deepens as he pursues his quest.

GOAL:
Your goal is to complete individual missions conducting research using the Internet. You will be gathering information about the Paleolithic Era and what it was like to live during this period in time. Dar's story offers us wonderful insight about his life, but that is only one boy's story. Living in the Paleolithic Era could be different depending on your surroundings, your clan, and the specific time during that Era. The Paleolithic Era spans from 2,000,000 to 10,000 years ago. Keep this in mind as you accept and accomplish each mission. Your final mission will be to write an expository essay explaining your findings in detail.

TAKING NOTES:
Take good notes including the information you find as well as the source (webpage) you find the information. Keep your notes neat and organized so you can easily read and find your information when completing your final mission of writing an expository essay.
