Osmosis Experiement

STEP 1

Step 1: Form your Experiment

Materials
Many experiments have been done to show the movement of water. In this experiment, you will need to use the following ingredients.
  1. Distilled water (water with nothing else in it)
  2. Salt water
  3. Sting
  4. 400ml beakers
  5. meter stick
  6. triple beam balance
  7. 2 carrots

Scientific Method
Before actually doing the experiment, you will need to figure out the first few steps of the scientific method. Please include the following:
  1. Problem or Question you are trying to solve
  2. Prior Knowledge
  3. Hypothesis
  4. Experiment

  5. Materials
Procedure (very detailed, so that some one else could do the lab using your instructions
THINK ABOUT IT
Figuring out a good experiment can be tricky! Here are some things to think about:
  1. What is osmosis?
  2. When will water move out of a cell? What will happen to the cell?
  3. When will water move into the cell? What will happen to the cell?
  4. What could you use, instead of a cell, that could demonstrate that osmosis is happening (hint…look at your materials list)
  5. How will you measure if osmosis is happening (if water is moving into or out of the cell/object)
