Step 1: Form your Experiment |
Many experiments have been done to show the movement of water. In this experiment, you will need to use the following ingredients.
- Distilled water (water with nothing else in it)
- Salt water
- Sting
- 400ml beakers
- meter stick
- triple beam balance
- 2 carrots
Before actually doing the experiment, you will need to figure out the first few steps of the scientific method. Please include the following:
- Problem or Question you are trying to solve
- Prior Knowledge
- Hypothesis
- Experiment
Materials
Procedure (very detailed, so that some one else could do the lab using your instructions
Figuring out a good experiment can be tricky! Here are some things to think about:
- What is osmosis?
- When will water move out of a cell? What will happen to the cell?
- When will water move into the cell? What will happen to the cell?
- What could you use, instead of a cell, that could demonstrate that osmosis is happening (hint…look at your materials list)
- How will you measure if osmosis is happening (if water is moving into or out of the cell/object)
