Guide Book to the Plates

Introduction

Calling all Young Scientists of O’Hara Park School! You have explored parts of the earth, at length, and know that the Earth is in constant motion. The planet spins on its axis and orbits around the sun. Earth Scientists also believe that the surface of the earth itself is in motion, broken up into huge tectonic plates that drift slowly around the planet, a process called Plate Tectonics. Plate Tectonics has shaped our planet, forming high, majestic mountain ranges and deep, mysterious ocean trenches. The movement of these plates has a dramatic impact on human activity as well. That’s right YOUR activity! How we live and function is dependent on plate tectonics. In this Webquest, you will learn how the processes of Plate Tectonics causes changes in the Earth’s crust.
